Resources for RMD Professional Church Workers Conference sessions -- October 2012

AUTHENTIC TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION IN THE CLASSROOM:

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS:

  • Socrative -- Interactive tool for taking polls, quizzes, etc. using multiple devices. Students set up accounts with this, so student data may be accessed.
  • PollEverywhere -- Interactive tool for taking polls, quizzes, etc. using multiple devices. Students do not set up accounts with this service. Therefore, it is much better at collecting one time data.
  • Google Docs -- May also be used to create and record a quick survey. Use the "Create a New Form" function, then share the direct link to the survey to those you wish to poll.
  • Explain Everything -- iOS app for tutorials and presentations. See this video for an introduction. The app costs $2.99
  • Educrations -- A free iOS app that works in a similar manner to Educreations, though it does not have as many features or tools.
  • Quizlet -- Online service that is great for setting up quick quizzes, flash cards, vocabulary tests, and other rote learning activities.
  • Electronic badges are a way to reward those who achieve something in a formative assessment. The online learning service Edmodo has a badge system built into their program, as do a growing number of other services.

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS:

  • Google Docs -- Use the "Create a New Form" to create a series of assessment questions of all types.
  • Edmodo -- A free service which allows teachers to create an online community for their class. A quiz/test feature is just one way to create a summative assessment. Discussion posts are another way to assess learning.

INSTRUCTION:

  • Prezi -- Construct creative presentations with this tool. There is also an iOS app for viewing prezis. See http://prezi.com/uzkcdzqlqsfj/copy-of-top-10-europe-list/ to view how one student used Prezi to share content. Here is a teacher-created prezi on the Theory of Relativity.
  • Nearpod -- Create presentations and then share them across multiple iPads within a classroom.
  • Edmodo -- Share presentation content with students in an online environment.
  • Sliderocket -- Online presentation tools which allows users to collaborate on presentations.
  • Khanacademy -- Videos which may be used to supplement instruction. Primarily for junior and senior high students.

ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES:

  • Dragon Dictation -- A great iOS app (there is also a full computer program) for converting voice into text. An excellent tool for students who have ideas to share but struggle with writing or handwriting.

DRILL AND PRACTICE:

  • Quizlet -- Online service that is great for setting up quick quizzes, flash cards, vocabulary tests, and other rote learning activities.
  • Flashcards -- Create your own flashcard sets with this iOS app.
